Day 2 was a looooong one, started out in Ukiah, CA and made it all the way to Bend, OR. Which is where I'm at right now actually, God bless T-Mobile Hot Spots and Starbucks! :-)
Yesterdays sights involved an amazing drive through the redwood forest and avenue of the giants, along the southern Oregon coast, and then through Grants Pass and into Bend where I spent the night at a motel that I chose purely based on its name and the amusement I knew you all would get from it..."Westward Ho". Priceless. Actually it was amazingly cheap, and clean and I slept like a baby, who'd just driven for 14 hours. Of course, I've been making a lot of detours off the beaten path along my way, but time is somehow on my side because despite some 340 miles of extra touring I'm still on track to arrive in Roslyn later today.
I've got a confession to make. I can now no longer claim to be a purist when it comes to my claim of not being a morning person. It turns out I'm the worst sort of hybrid, I'm a morning person when I WANT to be one :-) This morning was the third sunrise I've seen in a row, and I've gotta tell ya, I've never been happier at 5AM. This mornings early start was to backtrack a bit to take the Cascade Lakes scenic route, 100% worth the early morning and the extra few hours. Here are just a couple of the photos...I'm posting all to Flickr and will have those up later, now that I have the time to play with the manual settings on my dig camera I'm only slightly obsessed with taking photos of everything,in multiple. This is the Cascade Lakes Highway, which I have re-named: Psycho-Squirrel Road. I have never seen so many suicidal, indecisive tiny little rodents in my life. Luckily, for all of us, there was no traffic (I literally saw four cars in 2 hours...just close your eyes and imagine THAT for a minute...) because I was dodging, and braking, and weaving. Why I'm not sure, there was plenty of evidence on the road that very few others had done the same, and had my car taken a nose dive into a tree I'm certain the little bastards don't have insurance but the road was open and I showed mercy.
Ok, back on the road!
