Technically, "Day 1" won't officially start until later this morning. 5 hours to be exact. But given that I'm planning (stress the word planning) to leave at 5:00AM, and we all know how much I love doing anything, but sleeping, prior to 10AM, I thought it best to post this now :-)
Day 1 is really all about covering as much ground as possible as I flee the Orange Curtain for the survival of my very soul. Ok, so that's a bit dramatic...not exactly inaccurate, but dramatic... oh to hell with it, it's my vacation and I'll be dramatic if I want to! Anyway, during this first leg of the trip I'll be covering about 650 miles to the southernmost point of the Redwood State Park, which should take about 9 hours. That's driving the speed limit. Now if we calculate that using Jessica's Laws of Speed & Physics, that puts the ETA around say, noon. :-) My theory is this, at some point if you're driving fast enough they don't have time to clock your speed, it's just "Did you see that red blur Bill?", "No Bob, it must be your imagination, but that mini-van has a tail-light out...". Brilliant I know, it's ok that you didn't think of it sooner, my mind is likely a finely tuned, inexplicable machine. In all seriousness, speed limits are very important things, they're based on years of analysis of road conditions, traffic patterns and possibly moon phases and they exist to ensure safety of motorists on the road and should be followed at all times. By everyone (else). :-)
